“Apparently, during the ‘80s, nobody really dressed like Madonna except for Madonna.”

Well, this project was certainly a wild ride! I had to pick a specific era and create characters based on that certain time, so I went with the 80s because honestly, who doesn't love the neon outfits, giant hair and leg warmers?

Considering I wasn't actually around to experience the 80s myself (I'm a 90s kid, through and though) I really had to do a lot of research for this project. I knew I wanted to make two characters who were complete opposites, so I looked in to typical women's fashion from the 80s and then the stereotypical nerd style that I would see in movies and TV shows from the 80s constantly.

By now I had names picked out already (that being Brittany and Gregory) and knew exactly what direction I wanted to go in to develop these two, so I began sketching out rough concepts right away for the both of them.

Through my rough sketches both Britt and Greg began developing their own personalities the more I drew them, so I didn't have to do much work to flesh them out completely. I did however still have to decide on a style to draw them in, so next I began to experiment with their faces and proportions.

Proportions and outfits came next in the development stage and once again both their personalities shone through in every sketch I did of them!

Characters can't just exist without having a world to inhabit so I researched in to typical settings that would usually be in American TV shows from the 80s and worked from there.

Just to be sure I had their designs down exactly I went back to their construction and took them apart piece by piece so I could make sure I'd be able to draw them consistently every time. Once that was done I finally began to work on colours.

These are two bio sheets I did for both Brittany and Greg to give them both a little background information! I wanted them to have back-stories that made sense and would explain how they acted.

Once their colours, construction and details were done I did their final colour turnarounds and put them both in situations to work out exactly how they'd react to certain things. I really wanted them to play off eachother a lot more but had to limit myself because I didn't have much time left.

Lastly I did some quick drawings of them in environments to show they would blend in well with their surroundings!
